1 Month Baby Photoshoot Ideas You Can Do At Home!
Babies grow up way too fast and you want to document the different phases and your baby’s milestones along the way. Your baby’s first year is an especially exciting time of change. Taking photos at home is a fun way to document those precious moments and your baby’s growth.
I know we can’t all afford to pay for a professional photographer to take our babies’ and families’ pictures all the time (although I wish we could because they are amazing!), so I want to encourage you that you totally can take your own monthly baby photos at home! With a little bit of effort and some good lighting, you can capture those precious memories with your phone camera in your own home.
Whether you want to do monthly milestone photos or just do a fun one month baby photoshoot, these tips will help you capture the perfect picture for your memories, to hang on the wall, or for social media.
Find natural light

The first step and #1 thing that will make the difference in making your photos of your baby look professional is finding the NATURAL LIGHT! Figure out what areas of your house have the best lighting (this may be different depending on the time of day). Once you found the right place for your pictures, test out different angles to avoid shadows.
Have a plan

Having a plan will set you up for success! Babies aren’t the most patient little humans. If you go in with a plan of what pictures you want to capture beforehand, you will be able to make it happen a lot more quickly. Make sure baby is fed beforehand and have a pacifier or toy nearby. Get your backdrop and props set up so you can get baby in and out quickly.
Get your props ready

The right props will also make a huge difference in creating beautiful images of your new baby! Some easy props you can use include: a soft blanket, a stuffed animal or teddy bear, or even a pacifier if it helps your baby stay calm. A white sheet or white curtains make a beautiful and simple backdrop. Some of my favorite pictures I took of my newborn baby were just laying him on a gray blanket swaddled up with a matching hat. If you have a baby around Christmas time, pictures under the Christmas tree with some ornaments and presents would be adorable ideas!
Invest in a baby mat

My sister got me the cutest little baby mat that I have loved laying my babies on and also make for the cutest pictures! She got mine from TJ Maxx but how darling is this soft ruffle cushion mat from Amazon? I love taking my baby’s picture on the little mat because it makes a great backdrop!
Start doing monthly milestones pictures

If you want to do monthly milestone photoshoots for your baby, month one is a great time to start! I am so glad I started this tradition with my first when I was a new mom because it’s so fun to compare how different my two boys have been at each age. Amazon also has really cute monthly milestone blankets with the month numbers on them! I have a lot of my friends that use these for their social media posts and I think they are a very cute idea.
Get siblings involved

It may sound intimidating to get your other kids involved in these pictures, but it is so worth the effort for the memories! Taking just a couple minutes for a photo session of you baby with their older siblings can be so much fun and not terribly hard. Try to find creative ways to get your older kids to smile and my #1 tip would be to keep it quick. My toddler has a very short attention span so I just need to be prepared for just a few cute photos and keep my expectations low.
Capture the little details

When we did professional photo shoots for our boys when they were newborns, some of my very favorite pictures were the detail shots! Make sure the snap pictures of your baby’s hands and tiny fingers. Get a photo of their little toes and itty bitty nose and ears. Those little things go away too fast and you will not regret documenting them to look back on forever.
You can definitely pull off your own DIY baby photoshoot. Some natural light, props, and a plan will set you up for success in taking pictures of your sweet baby.
